Curcumin is a bright yellow substance and chemical that is a single ingredient from turmeric, and emanates from the Curcuma plant, found in native species.
What are the Benefits of Curcumin?
Curcumin offers many supposed health benefits, including but not limited to:
- Help support acute kidney injuries/pain
- Improving antioxidant levels
- Supporting joint sweeling reduction
Is Curcumin and Turmeric the Same Thing?
Yes and no. Curcumin is one ingredient found within turmeric, and can only be ingested/consumed as a health supplement. Turmeric, on the other hand, can be consumed fresh, dried, or as a health supplement. Meanwhile, turmeric itself only contains a small percentage of curcumin.
Both curcumin and turmeric originate from the ginger family, and are considered beneficial for digestion, inflammation, and GI tract health.
Is Are There Any Side Effects to Curcumin Supplementation?
Turmeric is, by all accounts, a safe supplement that has minimal side effects. However, some users may experience an upset stomach, nausea, or diarrhea. Do not use curcumin if you have gallbladder problems.
